Today in US National Team History

April 24th 1994 was the date of an embarrassing 2-1 loss for the United States in San Diego against Iceland. The lone US goal was scored by Frankie Klopas.

The loss proved to be a defining moment for a host of players looking to make the final cut for Bora Milutinovic’s 1994 World Cup squad.

The loss spelled the beginning of the end for Quinn, Kinnear, and Agoos all of whom were cut in the next month when John Harkes, Tab Ramos and the other European based players returned to the national team.
