The Kartik Report MOM: Landon Donovan
A no brainer pick as the best field player in US MNT history, dominated the early proceedings in yesterday’s clash with Italy. Donovan played two brilliant through balls to American attacking players between minutes 25 and 30 that should have resulted in shots on goal. Donovan also found space drifting in a freer role on a congested, narrow pitch that served the US linkup play well. Early in this match Donovan was every bit as effective as the much hyped Andreas Pirlo.
Slotting home a late first half penalty and continuing to hold the ball well after the US was down to ten men, Landon Donovan earned this Man of the Match award, joining Jose Francisco Torres and Jonathan Bornstein as recipients of the award in the last three matches.
