Miami FC Sign Brazilian Hero
Less than a week after rival USL-1 squad Puerto Rico Islanders defeated MLS club Toronto FC in CONCACAF Champions League play, Miami FC has made their second big signing in the matter of days.
The signing of Junior Baiano brings a household name to South Florida for the final third of the USL-1 campaign. The former Brazilian National Team Centre Back and Confederations Cup winner will help to anchor a Blues backline that has been beset with injuries. Furthermore, Baiano at 6’4’’ has always been a strong target on set pieces.
Baiano becomes the latest World Cup veteran to sign in USL, and will help to lead Miami FC’s charge towards the playoffs. The Blues last qualified for the post season in 2006, when Brazilian legend, Romario was on the team. Miami FC has apparently learned from MLS that bringing in again, former international stars draws fans and attention.
Miami FC alst week signed Gale Agbossoumonde, a US U-20 team member who could fill in a key role as a defender for Thomas Rongen’s side in the upcoming U-20 World Cup.
Miami FC is in desperate need of bolstering its squad and these two signings should certainly help. The team currently sits in the final USL-1 playoff spot but is being chased by the Montreal Impact, a team with more experienced players and a much better historical track record of success in this league.
