US 4 -Cameroon 1: Live Match Analysis

Beginning at 12:45 ET, we’ll be providing live match analysis for the U-20 World Cup match up between the  US-Cameroon. The game can be seen on ESPN 2 beginning at 12:45 ET/9:45am PT in the USA.

LINEUP: (4-3-3) Perk (captain); Williams, Gale, Opara, Flores; Duka, Jeffrey, Arguez; Cruz, Taylor, Shea

For Florida interests, both Miami FC/Traffic Sports properties, Gale and Taylor start again today. Also South Florida native Bryan Arguez gets the start after a good 45 minutes off the bench Saturday.

Germany and South Korea drew 1-1 with the Koreans missing a few good chances to win late. The group stands like this entering this match

Germany 4  Cameroon 3 South Korea 1 USA 0

A loss today would not eliminate the USA, but a bad scoreline today would hurt the US’ chances of being one of the top 4 third place sides.

SECOND HALF:

USA 4 Cameroon 1 FT

Ownby scores a goal on a breakaway!

Cameroon pouring forward and they have two good chances to get a second goal in the past few minutes. (Minute 82)

US 3 Cameroon 1

Yaya converts from the spot after a silly foul (if it was in fact a  foul) by Ike Opara.

Taylor injured and will be replaced by Ownby. Like Saturday, the Miami FC and former JU man has run his socks off, but today has a goal to his name.

US 3 Cameroon 0

Dilly Duka with a cheeky chip of the keeper who was off his line, which results in a third goal for the US. The US not only has three points in the bag now, but likely passage to the next round as well as at minimum aone of the better third place teams.

Shannon Williams is booked for a foul right outside the box, Cameroon really pressing now as they must. The US does have plenty of space to potentially launch a counter.

US 2 Cameroon 0

ESPN2 really messed up on Taylor’s goal- hopefully 360 has the clip.

The US opens the second half with a GOAL by Tony Taylor!

FIRST HALF:

A first half which the US controlled for the most part comes to an end- Certainly Cameroon had some chances, but the Americans played well in the 4-3-3 formation set out by Thomas Rongen. On paper, this US team is one of the better sides in this tournament, and the first match which was so disappointing is now firmly in the rear view mirror.

USA 1 Cameroon0

Taylor feeds Arguez for a Florida made goal. Jacksonville to MIAMI- Miami FCto Hertha Berlin! 1-0 USA

Tony Taylor had a chance to put the US up in the 33rd minute and just missed the target.

Around Minute 20, The Cameroon attack began to assert itself, but the US Central defense has held well.

The US has started well, maintaining some possession and not ceding the early chances they did on Saturday.

Just got a phone call from Miami FC HQ, that they are watching how their two signings do today live. That’s one workplace where watching midday matches is encouraged! (well, if it affects your team I guess)
